REGIONAL TECHNICAL CONSULTATION ON THE HARMONIZATION OF SIMPLE AND PRACTICAL INDICATORS FOR SUSTAINABLE PELAGIC FISHERIES IN SOUTHEAST ASIA, 22-24 OCTOBER 2025, SUBANG, MALAYSIA.
SEAFDEC/MFRDMD successfully convened the Third Regional Technical Consultation (RTC) under the Fishing Capacity Project, titled “Harmonization of Simple and Practical Indicators for Sustainable Pelagic Fisheries in Southeast Asia.” The event took place from 22 to 24 October 2025 at USJ Summit Hotel, Subang, Selangor, Malaysia.
The RTC gathered 37 participants, including representatives from ASEAN Member States (AMSs): Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam. Additional attendees included experts from, Fisheries Research Institute (FRI) Kampung Acheh and FRI Bintawa, Department of Fisheries (DOF) Sabah, two resource persons from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), as well as Chief, Deputy Chief, Special Departmental Coordinator and officials from MFRDMD.
Indicator is a performance-based variable, measure or index that provides information on the condition and status of fisheries and fisheries resources. Over the three-day consultation, participants engaged in proactive discussions guided by resource persons, focusing on the selection and harmonization of indicators suitable for sustainable pelagic fisheries, emphasizing on practicality and regional applicability for all AMSs
