Appreciation Ceremony And Signing Of The Handover Document For The Rig-To-Reef Structure Between Petronas And The Department Of Fisheries Malaysia, 10 November 2025, Putrajaya, Malaysia.
Following the successful deployment of the Kapal oil rig platform at Pulau Kapas in 2017, the Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF), in collaboration with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), proceeded to deploy two additional oil rig structures South Angsi A (SA-A) and Warisan 81A (Hot Tap Frame) as artificial reefs under the Rig-to-Reefs program in the waters of Tenggol Island. The Warisan 81A (Hot Tap Frame) was deployed as a single structure on 27 June 2025 at the border of the Tenggol Island Marine Park Area in approximately 41 meters of water depth. Its purpose is to serve as a fish and marine biodiversity conservation site and to deter illegal trawlers from encroaching into the Marine Protected Area. Meanwhile, the South Angsi A platform was re-fabricated into five smaller artificial reef modules and deployed on the western side of Tenggol Island near the Sawadee Wreck. These newly installed oil rig reef modules are expected to create an additional attraction for divers and serve as structures that enhance marine biodiversity. These two oil rig structures were officially handed over to the Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) by PETRONAS on 10 November 2025 during the Appreciation Ceremony and Signing of the Handover Document for the Rig-to-Reef Structure between Petronas and the Department of Fisheries Malaysia, held at the Zenith Hotel, Putrajaya.
