Regional Meeting on Marine Debris and Abandoned, Lost or otherwise Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) in Southeast Asian Region, 21-23 January 2026, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.
The Regional Technical Meeting on Marine Debris and Abandoned, Lost or Otherwise Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) in Southeast Asian Region was held on 21–23 January 2026 at the Royale Chulan Hotel, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The meeting was attended by 38 participants, including Mr. Yosuke Kawamoto, First Secretary Mission of Japan to ASEAN, Mr. Joseph Arbiol and Mr. Muhammad Fikri Kodri from ASEAN Secretariat, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fauziah Shahul Hamid the Resource Person from Universiti Malaya, representatives from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam, FRI Batu Maung, FRI Kampung Acheh, FRI Bintawa, the SEAFDEC Secretariat, SEAFDEC/TD, as well as officials from SEAFDEC/MFRDMD.
In addition to discussions on the feedback from the questionnaire “Assessment of Marine Debris and ALDFG in ASEAN Member States (AMSs),” the meeting also deliberated on the outline of the Technical Guidelines to Assess, Prevent, and Remove ALDFG in the Southeast Asian Region. This meeting formed part of the Marine Debris Project, funded by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).
