On 1 August 2025, SEAFDEC/MFRDMD convened a hybrid-style internal discussion with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fauziah Shahul Hamid from the University of Malaya (UM), a prominent expert in marine debris and coastal waste management.
The meeting aimed to finalize the questionnaire titled Information Exchange on Marine Debris and Abandoned, Lost or Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) Countermeasures in the Asian Region. The questionnaire focuses on the current status of marine debris and ALDFG, levels of public awareness, and existing regulatory frameworks across ASEAN Member States.
In addition, the meeting also included a revision of the draft structure for the Technical Guideline on the Status of ALDFG and Measures to Prevent and Remove ALDFG.
