Internal Meeting on Preparation for Technical Guidelines to Assess, Prevent and Remove Abandoned, Lost or Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) in the Southeast Asia Region
SEAFDEC/MFRDMD convened the Internal Meeting on the Preparation of Technical Guidelines to Assess, Prevent, and Remove ALDFG from 11 to 12 February 2026 at the MFRDMD Office, Kuala Terengganu, attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fauziah Shahul Hamid from the University of Malaya as Resource Person, together with MFRDMD officials. It was supported by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) under the project Regional Collaborative Research and Capacity Building for Monitoring and Reduction of Marine Debris from Fisheries in Southeast Asia.
Over two days, participants reviewed the first draft of the Technical Guidelines Technical Guidelines to Assess, Prevent and Remove Abandoned, Lost or Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) in the Southeast Asia Region. On the second day, a hybrid session with the SEAFDEC Secretariat was held to refine the draft, and the inputs received were incorporated into the revised version
