MV SEAFDEC 2 Fisheries Acoustic Survey in West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia for Pelagic Fish Stock Assessment, 9-19 September 2025, West Coast Peninsular Malaysia
A fisheries acoustic survey was conducted by SEAFDEC/MFRDMD aboard MV SEAFDEC 2 along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, from Langkawi to Sabak Bernam, between 9–19 September 2025, to assess pelagic fish stocks. The survey aimed to estimate pelagic fish biomass, density, species composition, and population size using an EK80 scientific echosounder, to evaluate stock trends relative to previous surveys, and to analyze oceanographic conditions for fisheries management and marine conservation. The survey also supported biological-based stock assessment and capacity building for young scientists. Key outputs include scientific and technical reports on pelagic resources and oceanographic conditions, as well as enhanced technical expertise in hydroacoustic assessment and data analysis using Echoview software
