The SEAFDEC/MFRDMD, in collaboration with the SEAFDEC Secretariat, organized the Regional Workshop on the Development of the Technical Guideline to Assess, Prevent, and Remove Abandoned, Lost or Otherwise Discarded Fishing Gears (ALDFG) in the Southeast Asian Region on 31 March 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop was conducted in a hybrid format.
Participants included representatives from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam, along with the ASEAN Secretariat, the Regional Fishery Policy Network (RFPN), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fauziah Shahul Hamid from Universiti Malaya as the resource person, and officials from the SEAFDEC Secretariat, Training Department, and MFRDMD.
Chaired by the Secretary-General of SEAFDEC, Ms. Sampan Panjarat, the workshop successfully reviewed the first draft of the Technical Guidelines on ALDFG. The revised guidelines will be disseminated to participants once available.
